Meet Jordan Turner, one of our Best Parts at NAPA. Jordan has been working at our Merchant’s Walk NAPA Store located in Marietta, Georgia for three years where currently he is an Assistant Store Manager. And like a winning drag race car on a 1/4 mile track, Jordan has moved quickly with his career at NAPA. Jordan started as a Driver, moving to Counter Trainee, then Counter Sales position, and now into his current role as an Assistant Manager for the last year. We interviewed Jordan about the last three years of his career and what advice he would give others who are interested in working at NAPA or educating others who perhaps never thought about a Career at NAPA.
What do you do in your current role with NAPA?
“A lot, but I really love it. As a NAPA Assistant Store Manager it is vital that you are able to multi-task every single day. I am primarily responsible for the dispatch area of our store which would include our drivers and making sure that they are getting our customers what they want, when they want it, while still giving outstanding customer service experience. Whether they are retail or commercial customers, they expect and deserve a “wow” experience from us on a consistent basis. This is a very fast paced business where customers need you. It doesn’t matter if they are a retail or commercial customer, they depend on us knowing what we are doing to help them be successful.”
Do you have to love cars and know everything about a car to work at NAPA?
“I do believe that in my role, it is very important to have car and car part knowledge, even if it is just general. Car parts, knowledge and passion truly depends on what role you are in at NAPA. In my role, it is very important, but there are other roles, where you may not need as much knowledge, you just need to care about customers. I need to be a support to our counter people, so it is a must that I have an extensive car part knowledge so that I can help them be successful in working with our customers. What is great, is that NAPA will teach you what it is that you need to know. They have outstanding training and want you to be successful on your job for yourself and for our customers who expect the NAPA KNOWHOW from us. You don’t have to join the company having the KNOWHOW, but you will get it once you work for NAPA. Early on in my career I wanted to be a Mechanic. I attended Chattahoochee Technical College in Marietta, GA to accomplish this only to discover that I actually loved working with people more. Yes, I love cars and working on them, but my passion is working with customers and providing service where I can still utilize my knowledge of cars.”
What advice would you give to someone who wants to work at NAPA?
“NAPA is a very fast-paced environment and it’s not just about car parts, it is about serving customers and if you are a Manager, you must be passionate about serving your team. To work at NAPA, you must be very sensitive to time management, deadlines, being prompt and more than anything, speed and accuracy is key! So many unexpected things happen in the automotive world so you must be able to adjust, fix what is going on while remaining courteous to customers. We are here to serve the customer so they can serve their customer if they are a commercial business, or if they are a retail customer, get them back on the road, or finish a project, whatever it may be.”
Finally, we asked Jordan what he enjoys when he is not working at NAPA?
“I love to Bowl. I just took on the hobby just over a year ago, but I am addicted to it. My goal is to eventually bowl a 300 game (which in bowling is a perfect score by knocking down every pin each time).”
Jordan, NAPA knows you approach your job as an Assistant Manager the same way as your goal to bowl a 300, taking on challenges one pin or one part at a time. Thank you for taking the time to share your NAPA career journey and encouraging others to think about a career with us.
